dilute - Grape Blueprints Pour Spinach Olive Grape

5.jpg

"Tú me dirás, lo que no quiero oír. Duele, demasiado. Quizás, porque es la verdad. Me gustaría rechazar esas frases de tanta pena. Si podría, lo haría. Pero, como es, ni lo intento. ¿Tal vez, mañana?"

I'm knee deep in responsibility and the flood (inundación) is coming to take me. I think I've forgotten how to swim. Bummer, right?
Anyway, on to something much more "serious."
Seriously, what the fuck is the correlation between voting and democracy? Do they necessarily go hand in hand or are there other ways to partcipate in democracy. Are there others ways to practice it? If we're to decenter the subject (the subject being democracy) than we can come to the understanding that democracy is a social construction, as well. I know, I know. Sounds crazy, right? It's something to think about. Like I said to myself when I was a pibe, "capitalism and democracy are like oil and water...they don't mix"

Sin embargo, I've got a new album to share.

dilute - Grape Blueprints Pour Spinach Olive Grape

"I was taken by surprise. The music is good, but who is the old lady singing?" Funny. Seriously. It's funny. dilute was a band based in SF, but they've been broken for a while and the members have becomed involved in other projects (okay, natural dreamers, 31knots). dilute can at one moment be chaotic and the next beautiful. At first listen, the album is unpredictable, but that's a good thing. Above the beautiful melodies being played by the guitars and bass are some pretty interesting lyrics: "I am child with a gun/I might just murder everyone" which are found on the 2nd track. If I can describe this album it would be, chaotic beauty. 8 tracks of outstanding chaotic and beautiful melodies that will blow your mind away. Is it post-rock? Is it math-rock? Is it just weird? and who the hell is that old lady singing? Who cares. Just know that this albums is highly HIGHLY recommended because of it's unbelievably high awesome level.

1Planet
2People
3Apple
4Alphabet
5Explosion
60 vs. 1

ps. Highlights of the album are alphabet and o vs. 1. Especially, alphabet. The song begins with guitar playing a sweeping melody that uh...sweeps you off your feet. Next, enter the 2nd guitar, bass and drums. Slowly, you hear vocals emerging. The song is just slowly building up and doing it so beautifully. What a cheeseball, I am! This song is beautiful.

Amanda Woodward

Amanda Woodward Discography

Fortunately for you, I do not have a pretentious tangent preceding my music uploads. Next time, though, I will. Oh, I will...
Anyway, Amanda Woodward are (or was?) an Emo (as in Emotional Hardcore, ya know?) band from France. They are very, very good. This discography has everything they recorded before their album Le Decadence de la Decadence was released. Ok...now for the description. Aw, fuck that. Basically, this release is awesome. The only thing I can say is that the drummer is FUCKING SICK. Personally, I think he is extremely creative and active and that he drives the music. Without the drummer, Amanda Wooward would only be half the band they are. Not to say that that is a bad thing, but I def. think the drummers adds, a lot.

Reminder to self + Red House Painters - Ocean Beach LP

hdubs.jpg

"El Poder --dicen--, es como un violín. Se toma con la izquierda y se toca con la derecha."

I'm stuck in a world where the culture industry pacifies me to the point that I do not realize that I surrender myself to a passive and submissive existence (and to exploitation?). Technology is a double edged sword, but in our case the sword is being swung towards us. It could be used to liberate, but instead it is used to pacify us enough to be (shallowly) satisfied with our hollow existence. The advancement of technology is not being driven by any attempts to help break the links on the chain or to even pick at the lock, but it's being driven by the pursuit of profit. (M-C-M') Some people drink to forget, but most people are behind computers and televisions (including myself).

[Uh...pretty much what I want to say is, I wish people would make more eye contact and attempt to smile instead of hiding behind their cellphones and iPods. ¿ok?]

Red House Painters - Ocean Beach LP

Do you like somber music? Do you like songs that are longer than 5 minutes? Do you like reverb? Do you like alternative tunings and beautiful melodies? If yes, chances are that you will love Red House Painters. RHP was a band that was headed by Mark Kozelek who wrote (and still writes for Sun Kil Moon) extremely personal songs about depression, pain, love, kitty cats, etc. Ocean Beach is the 3rd (and a half) album by RHP and it differs from the 2 (and a half) albums that precede it. The songs are less sparse and the album doesn't test your patience.* It's depressingly beautiful and highly recommended.

1. Cabezon
2. Summer Dress
3. San Geronimo
4. Shadows
5. Over My Head
6. Red Carpet
7. Brockwell Park
8. Moments
9. Drop

*This is not to say that the 2 (and half) albums that precede Ocean Beach are not good because they are fucking great, but Ocean Beach is a good starting point to learning to appreciate RHP.

romantic negation + Juan Stewart : Oui! LP

1.jpg

It's simple to avoid responsibility, much too simple.

Anyway, I think I've been reading way too much Marxist(esque) theory or something. Shit is starting to seep into how I view romantic relationships and how each relationship signifies a phase that will be negated. The relationship will be negated by another relationship that it unconsciously gave rise to.
Basically, I've had an idea rolling around in my head...romantic negation.
So, let us say that you are in relationship, right? (Unluckily for me, that is not the case) Let's go on to say that the relationship is terrible and that there is a lack of autonomy for the two involved. Or better yet (like a true Marxist analysis?) for this hypothetical relationship, that the relationship between the two is unequal. Ex: You - Happy/Partner - Unhappy. Unfortunately, your partner puts up with your shit, hoping for the best because apparently it will come someday. (Can somebody say reform politics? Attack the effects, but not the structures that cause the effects) Or your partner does not realize that the relationship between you two is just not working out. For her to realize that, she has to have some type of consciousness (like class consciousness) to "mobilize" for change. When the blindfold has been removed and she has become conscious of the unequal relationship (romantic exploitation?), she can begin to transcend the relationship in some way. One possibility is that she meets a nice person, someone that she feels she connects to. That is the possibility of a new beginning, of envisioning a new relationship. Something that is based on less "exploitative" grounds, something where both meet at halfway. Essentially, once you entered the relationship, you began a process of negation. Your relationship will give rise to a new relationship, which will negate the one you are currently in.
I'm assuming that it isn't always like this, but there are many people in the world and it's difficult to find that one person that you are completely compatible with. Until then, it will be a process of negation, until:
1)You stop being an asshole
2)You find someone that is compatible
3)Applicable to males: Redefine masculinity
etc etc etc

Maybe, I'll develop this a bit more, but these are essentially random thoughts and ideas.

The point is that I have some 'chill' music to upload:

Juan Stewart: Oui!

Nueve temas from an Argentine that orchestrates instrumental music that is extremely simple in structure. Beautifully minimal, in the sense that there is a lack of musical shredding. Imagine a sunny sunday in santa cruz or a walk through a green forest with the sun shining through the trees. Simply put: Brilliantly simple.
